Character and identity
Aramness sits just outside the fence of Sasan Gir, the world's only Asiatic lion sanctuary in Gujarat, and the proximity is the point: lions and leopards pass within earshot of the property after dark. Eighteen one and two-bedroom villas, each with a non-chlorinated plunge pool, are the work of Johannesburg's Fox Browne Creative, the design studio behind some of Africa's best safari lodges. Local craft anchors the interiors, with Lippan mud and mirror artwork by Kathiyawadi artisans. Dining is outdoors, regional, and driven by the on-site farm, while activities run from guided forest walks to tracking lessons in the bush.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and families chasing a proper wildlife experience without roughing it. Design-literate travellers will appreciate the Fox Browne hand and the artisan detailing; foodies will like the farm-to-table Kathiyawadi cooking. Families in particular are well served, with a non-digital edutainment centre, illustrated wildlife cards in-room, and species checklists that gamify every drive.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting urban energy, nightlife, or a beach. The lodge is genuinely off-grid, and the experience is built around game drives, walks, and slow days at the villa. If you want lots of restaurant variety or a buzzy social scene, this isn't it.
Bottom line
What makes Aramness work is the integration: design, conservation, food, and wildlife access all pull in the same direction, and the lion sanctuary on the doorstep is genuinely rare. Splurge on a two-bedroom villa if travelling as a family, build in at least three nights to get multiple drives in, and pair it with cooler-season travel between November and March.
