Character and identity
Set in a restored 17th-century mansion in the centre of Santanyí, a quiet market town in southern Mallorca less than an hour from Palma airport, Can Ferrereta is a 32-room boutique where architect Sergi Bastidas has paired the original stone structure with two new minimalist buildings. More than half the rooms are suites, and contemporary art (Plensa, Jordi Alcaraz, Guillem Nadal, Riera i Aragó) runs throughout the public spaces. The 3,000-square-foot Sa Calma spa, a sculptural main pool, and two restaurants (Ocre, and La Fresca by the pool) anchor a young, attentive service register.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and creative travellers (photographers, artists, anyone unplugging from a city) who want a quiet rural base with serious art, cooking, and spa work. Also a strong pick for guests who like a small house where the front desk will plan bike routes, beach coves, and dinner reservations without prompting.
Should look elsewhere:
Families chasing a beach club, party-seekers, or anyone expecting an avant-garde village around the hotel. Santanyí is classic and low-key, the surrounding restaurants are honest but not at Ocre's level, and you will need a car or bike to reach the coast and natural parks.
Bottom line
The draw here is the rare balance of serious design, art, and cooking inside a calm rural town that otherwise sees only day-trippers. Book a Junior Suite for the private garden and freestanding Origin tub, plan dinner at Ocre at least once, and come in shoulder season when the pool terrace is yours and Mallorca's coves are still quiet.
