Character and identity
Set on a quiet stretch of North Beach about fifteen minutes from South Beach, the Carillon is a 150-suite wellness resort housed in a Norman Giller MiMo landmark from 1958 (the neon rooftop sign still survives). The mood is calm and apartment-like rather than party-driven: blue and neutral interiors, floor-to-ceiling windows, 750 feet of private sand, four pools and a two-story gym. The heart of the property is a 70,000 square foot spa with thermal circuit, red light pods and sound therapy rooms. Dining centres on The Strand, a Mediterranean room with an outdoor terrace, backed by the poolside Seaglass Cafe.
Who's it for
Best for:
Fitness-minded travellers, wellness retreat types and multigenerational families who want space, quiet and a beach without the South Beach scene. The all-suite layout with full kitchens suits longer stays, groups of friends and parents juggling kids; the integrative health roster (nutritionists, acupuncturists, energy healers) appeals to anyone planning a reset.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting walkable nightlife, restaurant variety on the doorstep, or buzzy Miami Beach energy. The surrounding stretch of A1A is dull, on-property dining is limited to essentially one restaurant, and not all suites have balconies.
Bottom line
The spa and fitness programme are the reason to book, included for guests and genuinely substantial, with the all-suite product making this an unusually practical choice for families and longer stays. Spend up for a two-bedroom if you're travelling with kids or cooking in, pre-book fitness classes and the rock-climbing wall before arrival, and plan on cabs to Surfside, Bal Harbour or South Beach for variety.
