Character and identity
Set high on the cliffs of Praiano, Casa Angelina is the modernist outlier of the Amalfi Coast: a sleek, white-on-white boutique of 36 rooms that reads almost Aegean against the cobalt sea, with contemporary art throughout and a glass elevator engineered for the view. Private terraces frame Positano and Capri's Faraglioni. Dining peaks at Un Piano nel Cielo, the Michelin-starred rooftop, with Seascape Cocktail Bar cantilevered over the bay and the new Terrazza Costiera adding another vantage. A lemon-shaded pool deck, indoor hydrotherapy pool, spa with Pilates and sunset yoga, and a house boat fleet round out a polished, laid-back register.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and adults travelling together who want the Amalfi panorama without the crush of Positano or the gilded formality of the coast's grande dames. Ideal if you value contemporary architecture, serious cooking, hydrotherapy and yoga, and on-water access via a private boat to Capri.
Should look elsewhere:
Families with young children: the property is strictly 12 and over. Anyone wanting a true beachfront base will find La Gavitella is reached by elevator and a stairway down, not steps from the lobby. Those craving classic frescoed Italian grandeur should book elsewhere.
Bottom line
The proposition here is a modernist, adults-only perch with a Michelin rooftop and one of the few west-facing beaches on the coast, reachable by the hotel's own elevator and shuttle network. Spend up for the Vermarine Suite or Suite Azure if the view is the point, book between April and October, and use the house boat day to see Capri without the ferry queue.
