Character and identity
Set on the slopes of Los Volcanoes Natural Park and La Geria, with the coast at Puerto Calero close by, César is a 20-room property carved from a former school that was once home to the Manrique family. The architecture leans into Lanzarote vernacular: snow-white façades broken by volcanic lava trim and the island's signature green doors and window frames. Interiors by Virginia Nieto run to green and white, polished cement, bamboo, linen and oversized lamps of her own design. A lake-like organic pool, vineyards producing the hotel's own Malvasia, olive groves and orchards give the estate real depth. Cooking is overseen by Madrid's Juanjo López.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-minded couples and solo travellers who want a small, slow, agricultural-luxe Lanzarote: serious cooking, natural wines and Bruno Paillard Champagne, walks among olive trees, sunrise yoga, e-bikes for island exploration. Wine lovers and repeat Canaries visitors looking to rediscover the island will feel especially at home.
Should look elsewhere:
Families wanting a kids' club, beachfront swimmers, and anyone after a full resort with multiple restaurants, a proper spa or buzzy bar scene. The setting is inland-rural rather than beachside, and at 20 rooms the facilities are deliberately pared back.
Bottom line
The draw here is the whole estate as a single composed object: López's kitchen, the working vineyard and olive groves, Nieto's interiors and a service culture pitched at giving you space rather than fussing. Book one of the 13 rooms with a private terrace, ideally with both ocean and volcano views, and time a visit around the wine harvest or the December launch of sunrise yoga.
