Character and identity
Tucked into the Chacabuco Valley in remote southern Chile, this 13-room lodge (eight standard rooms, five suites) is the only luxury stay inside Patagonia National Park, the vast tract rewilded by the Tompkins Conservation project. The architecture is built from reclaimed wood, repurposed stone and recycled copper, with beamed ceilings, wide-planked floors and a neutral, understated palette that defers to the landscape outside. The main lodge holds the bar, dining room and reception, with a small spa offering three outdoor hot tubs and two treatment rooms. Meals, drinks and guided excursions are all inclusive, and guanacos often graze just beyond the windows.
Who's it for
Best for:
Active, design-literate travellers who want serious wilderness without the crowds of Torres del Paine. Expect a sporty, well-heeled crowd kitted out in Arc'teryx by day and quiet luxury by night, here for full-day treks, kayaking, biking and the chance to spot puma, condor and guanaco with genuinely passionate guides. Outdoorsy families with kids aged 10 and up fit well.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting nightlife, shopping, a beach or quick access from a major city. Getting here means a two-hour flight from Santiago plus a six-hour van transfer (or a charter into Cochrane). Young children, less mobile guests, and travellers who want a polished destination spa will find the brief too narrow.
Bottom line
What you're paying for is singular access: a 740,000-acre park you may have almost to yourself, paired with guiding and food that punch well above what such a remote outpost should deliver. Book a suite if you want more space for the days you're not on the trail, allow at least four nights to justify the journey, and take the Cochrane charter if the budget stretches.
