Set just outside Menaggio on the western shore of Lake Como, this 19th-century neoclassical mansion trades the bustle of Bellagio and Varenna for a quieter, more private stretch of waterfront framed by snow-capped peaks. The recently refreshed interiors play a contemporary palette and modern furnishings against original chandeliers and ornate moulding, with many rooms opening onto lakefront balconies and soaking tubs with a view. Dining centres on 1827, a fine-dining venue with a wrap-around terrace, and Lago Restaurant, where breakfast runs to cream-stuffed pastries, cured meats and made-to-order eggs. Erre Spa adds chromotherapy showers, a Kneipp path and a Himalayan salt room. Service is anticipatory and polished.
