Character and identity
Hotel Kämp has anchored Esplanadi since 1887, and a top-hatted doorman still marks the threshold of Helsinki's grandest address. The current renovation (completing late 2026) stretches the property across four connected buildings, including the adjacent Helander House, for a total of 179 rooms hung with a 300-piece collection of Finnish art. Inside, Art Deco flourishes meet contemporary comforts, the lobby and reception have swapped places with the bar, and À La Kämp turns out steak, seafood and a tableside Caesar. An expanded spa with two pools, seven treatment rooms and saunas is on the way.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and culturally curious solo travellers who want a grande dame address in the centre of Helsinki, with strong cooking, an art-filled interior and the kind of emotionally intelligent service where the doorman remembers you. Suite bookers and Executive guests get club lounge access. Multi-generational groups will find connecting suite configurations.
Should look elsewhere:
Families with young children will feel conspicuous; this is an adult, social hotel where you may not see another child all weekend. Anyone wanting full spa and dining infrastructure in finished form should wait until the renovation completes in late 2026.
Bottom line
What sets Kämp apart is the service register, warm, witty and quietly observant, paired with cooking and an art programme that actually justify the rates. Book an Esplanadi-facing Executive room or above to unlock the club lounge, join Leaders Club for free breakfast, and consider waiting until the late-2026 reopening if the full spa matters to you.
