Character and identity
Three adjoining buildings on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, a short walk from Piazza San Marco, have been reworked into a 32-room boutique hotel that feels like the palazzo of a chic Venetian collector. Expect hand-laid green terrazzo Veneziano floors, 1958 Venini polyhedral chandeliers, Rubelli fabrics (including whimsical Luke Edward Hall patterns), and a lobby lounge where you can step in directly from the Canal San Moisè. Il Piccolo restaurant seats just nine tables and Il Piccolo Bar pours inventive cocktails like the Doge's Fizz. Service is warm, personal, and unscripted.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and solo travellers who want a small, characterful base in the absolute centre of Venice, with access to artisan studios (Micheluzzi Glass, Atelier Antonia Sautter) that most guests never see. Vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free diners are unusually well looked after for this city.
Should look elsewhere:
Crowd-averse travellers will struggle with the daytime crush around San Marco, and anyone expecting a full spa, pool or multiple restaurants should book a grander palace hotel. There's no spa on site, only in-room treatments on request.
Bottom line
The appeal here is the combination of a genuinely curated interior, a 32-room scale that keeps service personal, and a location you cannot beat for sightseeing once the day-trippers thin out. Book a canal-facing suite or one with a terrace, accept that mornings on the doorstep will be busy, and lean on Matteo at the concierge desk for artisan introductions you won't find elsewhere.
