Character and identity
Hotel Zetta sits in the thick of SoMa, San Francisco's tech corridor, and wears its neighbourhood on its sleeve: the lobby reads like a glossy startup HQ, scattered with Warhol-esque artwork, shuffleboard and enough games to qualify as a small arcade. The 116 rooms lean tech-forward, with Alexa, G-Link smartphone docks, Samsung smart TVs wired for Netflix and Illy espresso machines, plus splashes of bright modern art. Downstairs, The Cavalier channels a London brasserie (leather banquettes, brass, dark wood, 135 seats), with the zebra-print speakeasy Marianne's tucked behind it on weekend nights. Service is warm and genuinely accommodating.
Who's it for
Best for:
Bleisure travellers who want to plug into San Francisco's tech and nightlife scene rather than escape it. Couples and friend groups who like a playful, design-aware hotel with strong cooking on the doorstep will get the most out of it; the Zetta Suite, at 800 square feet with a Nintendo Switch and two bathrooms, also works for small families or travelling friends.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone after a quiet, unplugged retreat should pass; you'll overhear plenty of startup talk in the common areas. The layout, spread across game room, lounge and gym, isn't especially intuitive, and room service runs Monday to Saturday only, finishing at 8:30 p.m.
Bottom line
The defining pitch here is location plus personality: a playful, tech-literate base in SoMa with a genuinely good British brasserie attached. Book the Well + Away King if you want a Peloton and calmer, eco-minded amenities, or the Zetta Suite for groups. Worth booking when you actually want to engage with San Francisco's downtown energy rather than retreat from it.
