Character and identity
InterContinental Toronto Centre sits at Front Street West and Simcoe, physically connected to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and a short indoor walk from Union Station and the Financial District. The expansive lobby opens into Azure, a lofty glass-ceilinged restaurant and bar run by Shawn Whalen, a Certified Master Chef whose menu leans into Canadian provenance (Quebec cheese curds, Ontario pork, whiskey barbecue glaze). More than a dozen works curated with Bau-Xi Gallery line the public spaces. Spa InterContinental adds eight treatment rooms, a saltwater indoor pool, sauna and hot tub. Rooms are spacious with recently renovated bathrooms and Byredo amenities.
Who's it for
Best for:
Business travellers, conference delegates and event-goers who want to walk to their meeting without stepping outside in a Toronto winter. Also a strong pick for couples or families attending a Blue Jays game, a CN Tower visit, Ripley's Aquarium or a show at Roy Thomson Hall, Scotiabank Arena or the Mirvish theatres, all within a few minutes on foot.
Should look elsewhere:
Design-led travellers chasing a boutique sensibility or a buzzy neighbourhood scene will find this a corporate, convention-anchored property rather than a style statement. Anyone wanting Yorkville shopping, Queen West nightlife or a quieter residential pocket should base themselves further north or west.
Bottom line
Location does the heavy lifting here: nothing else in the city puts you under the same roof as the convention centre and within a covered walk of Union Station, the CN Tower and the major arenas. Book it when you're in town for an event, request a Club Level room for the lounge views over Lake Ontario, and prioritise the renovated bathrooms over older room categories.
