Character and identity
Opened in 2021 on floors 27 to 35 of Gangnam's Centerfield complex, this 254-room hotel pays homage to the original 1914 Chosun Hotel while feeling decisively contemporary. Monaco's Humbert & Poyet have layered midcentury modern lines with Korean motifs, brass structures, sand-toned stone, marble flashes, and roughly 400 artworks (a Daniel Arsham sculpture greets you at reception, a Matisse print hangs in the gym). Five dining venues anchor the experience: modern Cantonese at The Great Hong Yuan, Chef Son Jong-won's contemporary Korean at Eatanic Garden, the Constans buffet, and the 1914 Lounge & Bar with 30-foot windows. Service is polished, formal, and exacting.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design and art lovers who want to stay inside the gallery rather than visit one. Also a strong pick for couples seeking a Gangnam staycation, well-heeled shoppers near COEX, and food-focused travellers who'll work through Eatanic Garden, the Roomboy cocktail at 1914, and Monsieur Benjamin across the street.
Should look elsewhere:
Romantics chasing seclusion should know the pool and buffet draw plenty of families and influencers. Travellers expecting deeply Korean interiors may find the design more European than the marketing suggests, and the spa's body scrubs, while excellent, are available citywide for less.
Bottom line
What you're really paying for is the art and architecture: this is one of Seoul's most visually considered hotels, with service to match. Book it if you care about design, cocktails, and Korean fine dining, and pick the Masters Room for families or a State Room with a high-floor Gangnam view. Note the entrance is via the Centerfield underground garage, not street level.
