Character and identity
Planted directly on Boulevard de la Croisette, on the footprint of the original Palais des Festivals, the JW Marriott Cannes is one of the youngest grand hotels on the strip and the most film-festival-coded. The 263-room property still houses an 825-seat theatre used during the May festival and occasionally for public screenings. A five-storey atrium clad in white Carrara marble with black and gold accents and a spiralling crystal leaf chandelier sets a glossy, theatrical tone. Dining runs to Italian at Scalini and Mediterranean-Asian at the private Palais Stephanie Beach, with sundowners on the Sunset Terrace and a rooftop pool overlooking the yachts.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and Croisette-curious travellers who want to be in the thick of Cannes, with the festival theatre, designer shopping and the port at their doorstep. The rooftop pool, private beach across the boulevard, onsite casino and pet-friendly policy suit those who prize location and buzz over seclusion.
Should look elsewhere:
There is no onsite spa, so wellness-focused guests should look at the grande dame palaces nearby. The hotel sits more than 160 feet from the water, so anyone expecting toes-in-the-sand immediacy, or a quieter, more residential Riviera stay, will be happier in Cap d'Antibes or Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
Bottom line
Location is the whole proposition here: you are standing on the Croisette, with the festival's spiritual home built into the hotel itself. Book it if you want to walk to everything Cannes does well and don't mind crossing a boulevard for the beach. Spring for a sea-view room, and time a stay around festival fortnight only if you want the spectacle.
