Character and identity
Roughly six miles from downtown Hanoi on the Vietnam National Convention Center campus, this 450-room hotel cuts a striking figure: a Carlos Zapata-designed structure inspired by the dragon legend and the Vietnamese coastline, wrapped around a man-made lake. Inside, expect vast marble lobbies, soaring ceilings, sweeping staircases and grand ballrooms, with staff in ao dai at the door. The eighth floor houses the wellness centre, with a suspended pool overlooking the city, a Vichy room and a vertical garden. Five restaurants span Chinese, Japanese, French and international, and the JW Lakeside Gardens offer quiet outdoor space.
Who's it for
Best for:
Conference and meetings travellers (over 5,000 sq m of flexible event space on a single floor), architecture and design-minded guests who want a contemporary statement building, and couples after a serene, resort-style city stay with a strong spa, pool and multi-cuisine dining lineup. Sustainability credentials add appeal for greener travellers.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone who wants to step out of the lobby into Old Quarter street life. The South Tu Liem location is around 40 minutes from the airport and a shuttle ride from downtown heritage sights, so heritage-focused first-timers and short-stay city explorers will lose time in transit.
Bottom line
The defining factor here is location and scale: this is a large convention hotel with serious architectural presence and a genuinely strong wellness floor, not a base for walking the Old Quarter. Book it if you're attending an event, want a calm lakeside retreat with excellent dining, or prize design. Splurge on a higher-floor room for the city views, and use the complimentary downtown shuttle.
