Character and identity
Twelve miles north of Miami, this 300-acre resort feels improbably removed from the city, with Mediterranean-inspired architecture wrapped around gardens, a century-old banyan tree, two Robert Trent Jones, Sr. championship golf courses, and the Tidal Cove Waterpark (lazy river, seven slides, FlowRider). Accommodations spread across four towers, all with floor-to-ceiling windows and furnished balconies over the ocean, pools, fairways, or Aventura skyline. Dining anchors on Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina with a 1,000-bottle wine list, plus Corsair Kitchen & Bar for regional cooking. The three-story wellness centre runs Babor treatments and Himalayan salt rooms.
Who's it for
Best for:
Families travelling with kids who will live in the waterpark, golfers chasing two PGA-tested courses, and Marriott loyalty members with points to burn against a resort where the on-site extras stack up fast. South Florida locals also use it as a staycation, which tells you something about the self-contained appeal.
Should look elsewhere:
Couples after a quiet, design-led retreat, or anyone expecting beachfront (it's two miles away by shuttle). Service can run inconsistent given the scale, and because non-hotel guests buy day passes to the pools, restaurants, and golf, expect crowds, lounger scrums, and occasional traffic at the gate.
Bottom line
The defining tension here is scale: 408 rooms plus day-pass traffic means the facilities are genuinely impressive but rarely feel exclusive. Book it for the kids' waterpark access and the golf, not for intimacy or polish. Reserve a poolside cabana from the outset to claim your own real estate, and lean on points if you have them, since resort and activity fees compound quickly.
