Character and identity
Set back from the quieter northern end of Seven Mile Beach, this 266-room Kimpton opened in 2016 as the brand's first Caribbean resort and broke from colonial convention with a contemporary beach-house aesthetic: whitewashed wood, coral accents, floor-to-ceiling windows, and Caymanian touches like a restored catboat suspended in the library. Two pools (one adults-only with a swim-up bar), a SPLASH water park, and an 8,500-square-foot spa with a hammam-inspired steam room anchor the grounds. Dining runs from coastal Mediterranean at Ave to beach tacos at Coccoloba, with Library By The Sea, a literature-themed cocktail bar, the unexpected showpiece. Service is warm and first-name familiar without the starch.
Who's it for
Best for:
Families wanting a polished beach resort with serious kids' programming (dedicated club, water park, cooking classes, family suites with bunk-bed rooms), and couples happy to share the property with them in exchange for excellent food, a strong spa, and a quieter stretch of Seven Mile Beach. Design-minded travellers and cocktail obsessives will find more here than expected.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting an adults-only or party-leaning scene; children are visible and audible throughout. The northern location means a rental car is sensible, taxis run pricey, and north-facing rooms look onto staff parking. Purists after a traditional Caribbean colonial aesthetic won't find it.
Bottom line
What sets this place apart is the combination of genuine Caymanian design storytelling, a kids' offering that actually works, and a cocktail and dining programme well beyond resort standard. Couples and design literates should book an oceanfront suite with a private soaking tub or a wraparound upper-floor terrace; families want the Family Suite. Budget for a rental car and request west-facing for the sunsets.
