Larmont Sydney by Lancemore
Review
Character and identity
Set behind the Coca-Cola sign that marks the Kings Cross crossroads, Larmont Sydney by Lancemore is a high-rise bolthole that leans more toward refined Potts Point than the hedonism on its doorstep. The 103 rooms and suites, redesigned in 2016 by Hassell, layer grainy-wood desks, marble accents, generous armchairs and heavy curtains into a contemporary, residential feel. The 24-hour lobby includes a cocooning breakout nook, and The Hyde Restaurant beside it serves a relaxed modern European menu. Service is informal but well-informed, with concierges who know the neighbourhood cafes, bars and markets in detail.
Who's it for
Best for:
City-minded couples and solo travellers who want a contemporary, design-led base within walking distance of Potts Point, Darlinghurst, the CBD and Rushcutters Bay. Business guests are well served by fast free Wi-Fi, in-room iPads and Bose audio. Dog owners get a genuine welcome: Terrace Rooms come kitted out with bed, bowls and treats.
Should look elsewhere:
Travellers wanting a full resort experience, multiple restaurants or a hotel spa should book elsewhere. There's one restaurant, no on-site gym (Anytime Fitness next door fills the gap), and the Kings Cross location, while improved, still carries a late-night edge some guests would rather avoid.
Bottom line
The pull here is a smartly updated room product and a location that quietly favours leafy Potts Point over the noisier Cross. Couples and design-minded travellers should book a Terrace Room for the 25-square-metre private outdoor space, or a Harbour View Room on the top two floors if distant water views matter more than fresh air.
