Character and identity
Tucked into a discreet corner on Presidente Masaryk Avenue in Polanco, Las Alcobas occupies a former estate reworked into a 35-room boutique property whose name (Spanish for "alcoves") signals its intent: a quiet, residential refuge inside one of Mexico City's most frenetic luxury districts. The interiors, by Canadian duo Yabu Pushelberg, layer suede, leather walls, ruched drapery and wrought iron around a sculptural spiral staircase that anchors the building. Anatol, helmed by chef Justin Ermini, is the signature kitchen, and an intimate spa rounds out the programme. Service is polished and personal, closer to a private home than a chain.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and design-literate solo travellers who want a quiet, residential base within walking distance of Polanco's boutiques (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Cartier), serious restaurants and nightlife. Also a strong pick for business travellers who want fast Wi-Fi, considered rooms and a high-end kitchen downstairs without crossing the city.
Should look elsewhere:
Families wanting a resort programme, kids' club or pool culture will find the scale too small and the mood too grown-up. Travellers looking for a buzzy lobby scene, a full-service destination spa, or a value play should book elsewhere; this is one of the city's pricier addresses.
Bottom line
What you're paying for here is a small, design-driven townhouse in the best square mile of Polanco, with the cooking and the bathrooms doing much of the heavy lifting (hydrotherapy tubs, mood lighting, a soap menu). Couples and design-minded travellers get the most from it; book the Pasaje Penthouse for the 1,600-square-foot terrace, or a standard room midweek when corporate rates soften.
