Character and identity
Perched on the Promenade des Anglais above the Baie des Anges, Le Negresco has held court over Nice since 1913, its pink dome and Belle Époque silhouette as much a part of the seafront as the water itself. Inside, 102 rooms and 26 suites are each individually designed, threaded through a 6,000-piece art collection that runs from Louis XIII portraiture to Niki de Saint Phalle. Dining anchors on Michelin-starred Le Chantecler and the carousel-themed La Rotonde brasserie, both under chef Virginie Basselot, while N Le Spa, opened in 2024, brings 7,500 square feet of Carrara marble, hammam and heated pool. Service is attentive, polished, and genuinely warm.
Who's it for
Best for:
Culturally curious travellers and design literates who want to feel the weight of Riviera history rather than stay in another minimalist box. Couples drawn to gastronomy and art collecting, returning Francophiles, and families (suites are roomy, kids' art workshops run for ages four to ten, the private beach club sits across the road) all find their footing here.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone after a contemporary, pared-back design hotel will find the maximalist decor, antique furniture and theatrical themed suites too much. The hotel sits directly on a busy seafront boulevard, so light sleepers and seclusion seekers should book higher floors or look further along the coast.
Bottom line
What sets this hotel apart is the art: 6,000 pieces woven through every corridor and bedroom, making a stay feel closer to sleeping in a private museum than a luxury hotel. Book a sea-facing room on a higher floor for views and quiet, request a suite theme that suits you, and aim for shoulder season when Nice exhales and Chantecler tables open up.
