Makanyi sits in a quiet corner of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve where no other lodges operate, just a handful of private homes, giving the property an unusually exclusive slice of bush. The seven thatched villas in terracotta tones read more like a relaxed family home than a polished safari camp, an aesthetic shaped by British owner Jessica Gold, who took the property over in 2015.
