Character and identity
Set on Stock Island, a 10-minute shuttle from Duval Street, Oceans Edge spreads across 20 manicured acres of canal frontage and marina slips, with 175 rooms in three-storey Key West cottage-style buildings that feel almost residential. Tropical planting, palms and bobbing boats define the look; rooms run preppy-meets-modern with tropical prints, a Palm Beach and South Beach mash-up. Yellowfin Bar & Kitchen is the single dining outlet, open-air and Tommy Bahama in spirit, serving fish tacos, blackened shrimp salad and jerk chicken sandwiches steps from the dock. Service is casual and efficient, more vacation-rental than full-service resort.
Who's it for
Best for:
"Salt life" travellers who came for the water rather than the bedroom: anglers, divers, snorkellers and sailors who want their boat tied up in front of their room with 24-hour marina security. Couples and friends who like a low-key, gated base near Key West without the Duval Street crush will also do well. Free SUPs, kayaks, bikes and the town shuttle sweeten the deal.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting fine dining, a polished lobby scene or walkable neighbourhood charm should book in Key West proper. The surrounds are an RV park and working fishermen's homes, there's only one restaurant, and the service register is friendly-casual rather than attentive luxury.
Bottom line
The whole proposition rests on the water: this is a marina resort first and a hotel second, and it sings loudest for guests arriving with (or chartering) a boat. Spring for a marina-view room, factor in the boat slip fee if applicable, and lean into the free SUPs, kayaks and bikes. Those expecting a polished Key West luxury experience should book elsewhere.
