Character and identity
On Ibiza's quieter west side, fifteen minutes from San Antonio and close to Cala Gracio, OKU sprawls across 186 rooms set among pines and foothills. The design language is wabi sabi meets island boho: rattan, oak, hessian and stone in earthy tones, with Marshall speakers and pieces sourced from Mexico and Bali. The centrepiece is a 50-metre pool, said to be the island's largest, with a separate family pool alongside. OKU Restaurant turns out Asian-South American fusion under chef Mark Vaessen (ex-Sushisamba London), and the spa runs daily yoga and pilates. Service is warm and clued-in, with staff who know the coves and the clubs.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and groups of friends who want Ibiza's beach-club and sunset culture within reach but prefer to sleep somewhere calm and barefoot-luxe. Wellness-minded travellers will get good use of the yoga, pilates and treatment menu, and the four-bedroom villa with private pool suits multigenerational bookings.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone who wants to step straight onto sand: this is a pool hotel, not a beachfront one. Families needing a full kids' club programme will find the offer light (a family pool and an extra bed, essentially), and party-first guests may prefer to be closer to Playa d'en Bossa.
Bottom line
What sets this place apart is the combination of a genuinely beautiful pool-and-garden setting with cooking that locals actually book into, particularly at OKU Restaurant. Spend up for a suite overlooking the 50-metre pool, or the villa if you're a group; shoulder-season dates in late May or September give you the design, the food and the sunsets without peak-summer pricing and crowds.
