Character and identity
Set deep in Ashar Valley, Our Habitas AlUla disappears into the burnt-sugar sandstone, 96 low-slung villas in three categories (Canyon, Alcove, Celestial) scattered along a curving spine road so the cliffs, not the architecture, lead the eye. The social heart is Tama, a glass-walled pavilion serving Saudi-inflected contemporary cooking from local farms, anchored by an infinity pool pinned against the rock. Thuraya Wellness adds yoga, breathwork and an alchemy bar for blends and scrubs. Service is light-touch and largely local, with buggies and complimentary e-bikes handling distances between clusters.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and solo travellers drawn to landscape over lobby theatre, who want a base for Hegra, Dadan and Maraya by day and oud sessions, sound baths or stargazing by night. The packed roster of complimentary cultural activities and the 8km adventure trail reward curious, active guests who like their luxury barefoot rather than buttoned-up.
Should look elsewhere:
Families needing connecting rooms or cots will struggle, as extra beds aren't available in most villa categories. Anyone after polished urban-resort formality, multiple restaurants or a beach should keep looking, and midday heat off the rock walls makes high summer punishing.
Bottom line
What you're really paying for is the setting and the programming around it: villas that dissolve into the cliffs, and a daily calendar of yoga, sound baths, telescope sessions and trail runs that turns the valley itself into the amenity. Book a Celestial villa for the stargazing kit and extra space, and aim for the cooler October to March window when the rocks glow rather than scorch.
