Character and identity
Set inside a 17th-century palazzo that once served as a convent, Palazzo Ripetta runs the length of Via di Ripetta in the Tridente, five minutes from Piazza del Popolo and ten from the Spanish Steps. The 2022 redesign by Fausta Gaetani layers art deco bones with bold wallpapers, gilded sculpture and the owner's contemporary art collection, including a Warhol and an Arnaldo Pomodoro. The 78 rooms and suites are styled in light tones with Murano chandeliers and Frette linens. San Baylon handles refined Roman-Abruzzese cooking, Piazzetta Ripetta does courtyard aperitivo under olive trees, and Etere is the wine-led rooftop.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and solo travellers who want a central Rome base with a strong point of view: art, pattern, and the kind of crowd that doesn't photograph its plates. Families are genuinely welcome too, thanks to connecting prestige rooms, a two-floor luxury apartment, and a child-friendly menu at San Baylon.
Should look elsewhere:
If you want a resort-style spa floor, a pool, or a quiet residential setting, this isn't it. The hotel sits on a busy historic-centre street and leans into a sociable scene at the courtyard and rooftop, which can mean wedding parties in spring and summer.
Bottom line
The defining draw here is the combination of a near-perfect Tridente address with a genuinely distinctive interior: a privately owned art collection and a designer's hand rather than a chain template. Worth booking for design-minded travellers who plan to walk everywhere. Splurge on a suite for the private hammam, or take Suite Ripetta if you're travelling as a group.
