Character and identity
Spanning a full city block of the Sunset Strip on the former House of Blues site, this 149-room Pendry (rebranded in 2025 as The Sun Rose West Hollywood) makes a maximalist entrance: an Anthony James light installation pulls you into the lobby, and a Hollywood Regency design language of electric blues and golds runs through the rooms. The footprint includes 40 residences, a rooftop pool, a private members' club, a spa, a bowling alley, and a Wolfgang Puck dining lineup spread across Merois, Ospero and Bar Pendry. Service is polished, professional and pitched at a clientele as styled as the building.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-minded couples and well-dressed weekenders who want to be on the Strip without leaving it. The members' club, rooftop pool, bowling alley and Puck restaurants reward guests who treat the hotel as the destination. Suite bookers get the best of the interiors and curated art.
Should look elsewhere:
Travellers wanting quiet, residential calm or classic Beverly Hills polish will find the scene-driven energy and Sunset Strip address too much. Families and those prioritising understated service over see-and-be-seen styling should book a different Montage property.
Bottom line
What you're paying for here is a self-contained Sunset Strip social scene with credible cooking attached, not a restful retreat. Book one of the 37 suites to get the full Hollywood Regency treatment and walk-in closets; come for a long weekend when you want the rooftop, the members' club and Merois on tap, and shopping and The Comedy Store across the street.
