Character and identity
Perched on one of the highest points in San Antonio, this 496-room Hill Country resort spreads across a generous footprint that includes six restaurants, two golf courses, five pools, and Loma de Vida, an expansive spa with outdoor treatment suites and an infinity pool. The accommodation mix runs from standard deluxe rooms to SEVEN, an adults-only floor, and The Villas, a newer cluster with Bulgari amenities and private golf carts. Dining is the signature move: Andrew Weissman's Signature handles oysters, caviar, and wild game, while Bocado focuses on Texas charcuterie. Service is polished, sharpening to genuinely excellent at the spa and Signature.
Who's it for
Best for:
A property that genuinely flexes across demographics, from babymooners and empty nesters to multigenerational groups. Families lean on the Kids Club Naturalist Program (built with the San Antonio Zoo and Botanical Gardens) and a packed activity calendar; couples retreat to SEVEN; corporate groups tap 28 meeting spaces and the golf. Food-led travellers should put this near the top of the list.
Should look elsewhere:
If you want intimate, boutique-scale luxury or a walkable urban base, 496 rooms across a sprawling resort won't deliver it. The shuttle runs to Six Flags and an outdoor mall, so this isn't downtown San Antonio. Guests sensitive to mid-stay satisfaction texts, take note.
Bottom line
The cooking is the reason to book, with Signature and Bocado punching well above typical resort-restaurant level and the spa close behind. Couples should spend up for SEVEN; families and groups will get more from The Villas. Time a visit to a third Thursday for the Women & Whiskey series, and reserve Signature before you arrive, not on the day.
