Character and identity
Set on the white sand of Temae, Moorea's longest private beach, this 112-bungalow village hugs a marine-protected lagoon with uninterrupted sightlines across to Tahiti. The mood is laidback rather than formal: low-slung bungalows in dark wood and Gauguin-inspired tropical colour, ceiling fans turning over rain-shower bathrooms, and a layout that scatters guests across the beach and out over the water. Dining runs from the all-day Pure to candlelit tasting menus at K under a Kahaia-wood cathedral ceiling, with Vue Bar as the social hub. Le Jardin spa works almost entirely with Monoï, coconut and Tamanu oils. Service is warm, personal, occasionally unhurried.
Who's it for
Best for:
Honeymooners, design-minded couples and young families who want a genuine French Polynesian immersion rather than a polished generic resort. Snorkellers and divers do particularly well thanks to the no-motorised-vehicle lagoon, and anyone curious about reef ecology can plant coral with the resident marine biologist.
Should look elsewhere:
Travellers who need slick, ultra-efficient service should know the rhythm here is island-paced and can drag. Those expecting a brand-new product will notice the bones are older despite the recent soft refurbishment, and anyone after a buzzy resort scene with multiple bars and nightlife will find it quiet.
Bottom line
The defining draw is the setting: a protected, motor-free lagoon on Moorea's longest beach, with Tahiti framed on the horizon and a coral-gardening programme that gives the stay real substance. Spend up for one of the five luxury horizon overwater bungalows if the view matters, or the two-bedroom luxury villa for families. Build in a day with Temoana Tours.
