Taj Coral Reef sits on a private island roughly 45 minutes by speedboat from Malé, close enough for easy transfers but far enough that the surrounding dive sites feel uncrowded. The mood is fresh and laid-back rather than formal: honeymooners account for around 80 percent of guests and actually mingle in the public areas, which gives the island a sociable buzz unusual for the Maldives. A house reef encircles the entire island, accessible from any villa, and a swimmable wreck lies just 14 to 22 metres offshore. Jiva Spa leans into Indian ayurveda, with herb and essential oil therapies such as the Prishta Mardana.

Families needing a wide kids' programme, thrill-seekers after jet skis or motorised watersports (the resort sticks to non-motorised only), and guests wanting a beach that wraps the whole island. Sand runs along one side only and shifts with the seasons.
