Character and identity
The last Grand Victorian standing in Saratoga Springs, The Adelphi reopened in 2017 after a five-year, studs-out renovation that preserved the 1877 bones (original bannister, mural-sized mirrors, salvaged crystal) while installing a thoroughly modern hotel behind the wedding-cake facade on Broadway. Rooms are unexpectedly large for a heritage building, dressed in cobalt and gold with marble bathrooms and freestanding tubs. The dining roster comes from David Burke: Salt & Char for steaks and raw bar, Blue Hen for farm-to-table American in a Victorian greenhouse, and Morrissey's, the dark-panelled lobby bar that doubles as the town's social anchor.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and culture-minded travellers in town for the racing season, NYCB at SPAC, or the springs, plus Skidmore parents who want a proper hotel rather than an inn. Design-literate guests who appreciate restored period detail, serious eaters, and dog owners (the pet programme is generous) all do well here.
Should look elsewhere:
Families with young children seeking a resort programme, beach or pool people, and anyone wanting deep spa facilities. Light sleepers should also note that Morrissey's stays lively, and Blue Hen sometimes goes private in the evenings, which can dent the calm.
Bottom line
This is the only genuine luxury address in Saratoga Springs, and it earns the position through its restoration, its Burke-led restaurants, and a Broadway location you cannot improve on. Book a Premier Broadway Suite for the street view and the marble bathroom, and plan well ahead for the mid-July to Labor Day racing window, when rates climb and rooms vanish.
