Character and identity
The Darling is the boutique, all-suite tower inside The Star Gold Coast entertainment complex, a 19-storey hotel of just 56 suites sitting alongside a 24/7 casino, a 2,150-seat theatre and a roster of restaurants and bars. The design language nods to the coast: the lobby ceiling of black dragon marble drips with hundreds of glass beads mimicking a jellyfish, and a self-guided art walk threads through the property. Suites run vast (753 to 3,531 square feet) with crystal chandeliers, Frette linens, Bose systems and Jo Loves toiletries. The signature flourish is Nineteen at The Star, a rooftop infinity pool jutting 54 feet off the tower with the coastline below.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and groups who want a glamorous Gold Coast base with serious dining and nightlife on tap but a quiet, VIP-treatment retreat to return to. Penthouse bookers get karaoke rooms, billiards tables and private gyms. Broadbeach, Oracle Boulevard and Pacific Fair are walkable, so shoppers and food-led travellers do well here.
Should look elsewhere:
Families seeking a dedicated beach resort, or anyone who wants distance from gaming floors and entertainment-complex energy. The hotel connects directly to the casino, and while the suites are tranquil, the wider environment is busy, neon-lit and built around adult entertainment.
Bottom line
The draw here is scale and address: enormous suites, a gravity-defying rooftop pool, and a one-lift ride to a dozen credible restaurants including Kiyomi, Cucina Vivo and Uncle Su. Book it if you want Gold Coast glamour with food and theatre on your doorstep, and stretch to a north-facing penthouse for the balcony and skyline if the budget allows.
