Character and identity
Set across a cluster of 19th-century warehouses that once housed a newspaper and a bitters factory, this 196-room hotel layers industrial-romantic bones (exposed brick, salvaged timbers, arched floor-to-ceiling windows) with a Continental sensibility and flashes of royal blue against the brickwork. Reception desks are repurposed index card cabinets; tropical foliage softens the lounge atrium. Couvant, the restaurant in the former Peychaud bitters factory, leans brasserie with broader reach, while The Press Room handles cocktails with wit. A quadrant of courtyards, a gym and meeting space round it out. Service is genuinely well-informed.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples who want French Quarter proximity without the noise, cocktail enthusiasts drawn to the bitters-factory lineage, and business travellers who appreciate proper lounges and on-site dining worth lingering over. The mix here is broad, and solo visitors blend in easily.
Should look elsewhere:
Families with younger children will find little aimed at them beyond the walkable location. Anyone wanting a pool, resort-style amenities, or to be in the thick of Bourbon Street's energy should look closer to the Quarter's core.
Bottom line
The draw here is a genuinely characterful conversion paired with a bar and restaurant locals return to on their own merits, set just far enough from the Quarter to sleep through the weekend. Couples and design-minded travellers get the most from it; book the 700-square-foot Editor's Suite for the standalone tub and wet room, and plan at least one dinner at Couvant.
