Character and identity
Opened in 2023 within the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort in Cotai, this 271-room tower is the only hotel in the world designed in full by Karl Lagerfeld, and his hand shows everywhere: circular room dividers nodding to Chinese moon gates, Jingdezhen porcelain, cherry blossom wallpapers and a lobby treated as a gallery. The aesthetic blends chinoiserie with Western art deco. Rooms are unusually large for a city hotel, starting at 645 square feet. The Book Lounge holds 4,000 of Lagerfeld's curated titles; Mesa serves contemporary Portuguese cooking; The Spa works with 111SKIN in moody, gold-flecked treatment rooms.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate travellers, fashion followers and couples who want a maximalist, highly authored Macau base with serious shopping (100-plus boutiques including Piaget and Balenciaga sit within the resort complex) and a quiet tearoom-library to retreat into. Suite bookers get studies, private massage rooms and karaoke.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone seeking a beach, a tranquil resort feel or understated minimalism should skip it; the setting is a buzzing casino-resort district and the design is deliberately theatrical. Families chasing a kids' programme will find the focus is adult, aesthetic and gastronomic.
Bottom line
What you are buying here is Lagerfeld's vision rendered at full scale, a level of single-author design coherence no other hotel offers. Book it if that proposition excites you, and stretch to at least a suite to feel the room sizing properly; the Autograph Suite is the showpiece. Pair stays with Mesa and an afternoon in The Book Lounge.
