Character and identity
The Poseidonion rises above the Spetses waterfront like a great white wedding cake, a 1914 belle epoque landmark restored to full glamour by owner Emmanuel Vordonis. Edwardian marble floors in amber and sea-mist grey run through the lobby, and rooms come in a pale, light-reflecting palette across sea views, garden views, pool suites, royal suites and tower rooms. The Poseidon terrace overlooks the harbour and sets the social tempo of the island; seafood dominates the menu, and the Idolo Spa works with orange blossom, lavender and local olive oil. Service is warm, slightly grand, distinctly Greek.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and design-literate travellers who want a sense of place over resort polish, plus anyone drawn to boats, the June Regatta, and slow island days on electric bikes. Families do well here too: this is a sociable, egalitarian island hotel where children climb the Bouboulina statue out front and weddings and live music fill the calendar.
Should look elsewhere:
If you want a contemporary, minimalist design hotel, a private beach club on the doorstep, or the seclusion of a cliffside villa estate, this isn't it. The Poseidonion sits at the buzzing heart of Spetses town, and its character is Edwardian-grand rather than barefoot-chic.
Bottom line
What you're booking is the island itself, with the Poseidonion as its front-row seat: the terrace, the harbour parade, the Regatta, the cicadas in the oleander. Spend up for a sea-view room or tower room (garden views miss the point), aim for June around the Regatta if you want the full theatre, or September for warm water and calmer streets.
