Character and identity
A reimagined 1960s motor lodge sitting on 13 acres between downtown Jackson and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, the Virginian (locally, "the Virg") was Outbound Hotels' debut property and trades hard on its roadside-Americana roots. Expect wall-to-wall plaid carpet, wood panelling, vintage Western oils, Pendleton blankets and mid-century furnishings, plus practical touches like oversized gear-drying racks. The courtyard is the social engine: heated pool, two oversized hot tubs, fire pits, bluegrass nights, igloos in winter. The Virginian Restaurant handles hearty breakfasts, the storied Saloon keeps its taxidermy and karaoke, and a Yard Bar pours pool cocktails. Service is local, gear-savvy and unpretentious.
Who's it for
Best for:
Active travellers, families and groups who want Tetons and Yellowstone access without paying mountain-village prices. The Four Bunk Adventure Camp rooms sleep eight, the on-site adventure centre books wildlife safaris and ski outings, and the courtyard programming (concerts, s'mores, rodeo happy hour) makes it genuinely sociable. RV travellers get 103 full-hookup sites.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting ski-in/ski-out, a proper spa, or polished resort service. There's no dinner on property yet (Billy's Burgers is promised), the breakfast restaurant is walk-in only with waits, rooms near the hot tubs can be noisy, and the design leans deliberately campy rather than refined.
Bottom line
What you're buying here is location and personality at a fraction of Teton Village or downtown rates, wrapped in a knowing motor-lodge aesthetic and a courtyard scene that pulls in locals as well as guests. Families and groups should book a Four Bunk Adventure Camp room; couples are better off in a king with a seating area. Aim for fall concert season or a powder week and use the free shuttle.
