Character and identity
The third Tokyo property from the Trunk collective sits on Inokashira Street in low-key Tomigaya, a seven-storey new build with a planted concrete façade facing directly onto the treetops of Yoyogi Park. Inside, Keiji Ashizawa Design and Copenhagen's Norm Architects work a soft minimalism of natural wood, stone, curved lines and neutral tones, lifted by contemporary art and playful flourishes. The 25 keys (20 rooms, four suites, an Owner's Suite) feel intimate rather than social. At the heart of the property is the sixth-floor Trunk(Pool Club), a heated rooftop infinity pool with oyster and cocktail bar; on the ground floor, Pizzeria e Trattoria L'Ombelico turns out wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas to a neighbourhood crowd.
Who's it for
Best for:
Design-literate couples and solo creatives who want a small, stylish base between Shibuya and Harajuku, with a serious pool scene and a quiet park view rather than a big-hotel social programme. The bicycles, the park on the doorstep and the strong local restaurant make it a natural fit for repeat Tokyo visitors who already know the city.
Should look elsewhere:
Families needing space, anyone wanting a full spa (there isn't one, only planned in-room treatments), or guests who expect multiple dining venues, a club lounge or bathtubs in standard rooms. The 20 entry-level rooms are compact with showers only; suites are where the bathtubs and park views align.
Bottom line
What you are paying for is the pool deck floating above Yoyogi Park and a tightly composed Japanese-Scandinavian design language carried through every detail, from washi pendants to sage yukata robes. Service is unusually warm and flexible by Tokyo standards. Book a park-view room on a high floor, or stretch to a park-facing suite for the bathtub; the Owner's Suite is the trophy.
