Character and identity
A six-floor new build in the heart of West Hartford, set between Trout Brook and the shops and restaurants of Blue Back Square. The Chateau-style stone facade and canted roof give the property a weathered, classic look, while inside the lobby is flooded with light from an unusual abundance of windows. Rooms run cleanly contemporary, with creamy linens and blue and coral accents across 102 keys, including a 1,100-square-foot Pauline suite on the sixth floor. Artisan, the in-house restaurant from French chefs Michael Gaia and Frederic Kieffer, anchors the food programme, and the small spa works with Biologique Recherche and Valmont. Service is white-glove but warm.
Who's it for
Best for:
Business travellers passing through the insurance capital, design-minded weekenders who want a polished urban base for the Connecticut Art Trail, and couples who care about a serious restaurant and a tightly curated spa. Pet owners are welcome (with a $50 surcharge), and the new chauffeured vintage-car "key experiences" between May and November will appeal to anyone drawn to vintage motoring.
Should look elsewhere:
Families wanting kids' programming, beach-seekers, and anyone expecting the country-club horizontality of the Greenwich and Southport Delamars. The spa is tiny and books out fast, so guests who treat spa access as central to their stay may feel squeezed.
Bottom line
The defining draw is the combination of a genuinely accomplished restaurant and a level of service rare in this part of Connecticut, all in a brand-new building that already feels established. Book the Pauline suite if you want apartment-scale space, and time a visit between May and November to access the vintage-car excursions to the New Britain Museum of American Art.
