Character and identity
Set high in the rainforest of Arenal Volcano National Park, Nayara Springs is an adults-only retreat of villas threaded through dense tropical canopy, with toucans and sloths as neighbours and the volcano as the visual anchor. Villas are built from indigenous wood and local stone, each with a private plunge pool fed by mineral hot springs, an outdoor shower, oversized bathroom and hammock-strung terrace. Four restaurants and bars include the sultry, music-led Amor Loco and the alfresco Mis Amores for wood-fired pizzas and grilled Mediterranean plates. The open-air spa runs treatments with volcanic mud and organic cocoa clay in private pavilions.
Who's it for
Best for:
Honeymooners, anniversary couples and anyone who wants genuine seclusion with rainforest immersion, hot-spring soaks and unhurried spa days. Birders and early risers get a real payoff here, and the personal assistant model suits guests who want adventure excursions (volcano hikes, waterfalls, hanging bridges) handled for them.
Should look elsewhere:
Families with children, since the property is strictly adults-only (Nayara Gardens next door is the family option). Beach seekers should keep looking; this is inland rainforest, 2.5 hours from San Jose. Night-life hunters and those wanting a large, social resort scene will find it too quiet.
Bottom line
What you're paying for is privacy in the canopy: 35 villas, your own mineral-spring pool, and a service register pitched at couples who want to disappear for a week. Book a villa with the strongest volcano sightline, plan on at least four nights to justify the transfer from San Jose, and build in one spa morning with the volcanic mud treatment.
