Character and identity
Set at the foot of the Arenal Volcano on the wider Nayara estate, the Tented Camp is the third and most cocooned of three sibling resorts, with full roaming privileges across all of them. Twenty-five canvas tents (engineered with input from African safari designers) sit raised above a reforested sloth sanctuary, each with clawfoot tub, outdoor shower, and a terrace built around a hot-spring-fed plunge pool aimed straight at the volcano. Dining runs from poolside burgers to Nostalgia's serious wine list and the Latino-Moroccan plates at Amor Loco. Service is warm and well-drilled, drawing on the older properties' staff bench.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples, multi-gens, and small groups who want jungle immersion without sacrificing comfort. A good fit for design-minded travellers who'll happily hike a volcano in the morning and want a martini by a private hot-spring pool by sunset, and for remote workers (the Wi-Fi genuinely holds up). Eco-curious guests will appreciate the sloth and reforestation programme.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting a beach, urban energy, or a compact single-restaurant property. The optional night walk underwhelms. Travellers who find tented accommodation (however luxurious) gimmicky, or who want a Forbes-graded service register with formality to match, may prefer something more conventional.
Bottom line
What you're really paying for is the terrace: a private hot-spring pool with the smoking cone of Arenal directly in view, plus a sloth sanctuary at your doorstep. Book any tent (they're uniform in concept) and order room service breakfast on the deck at least once. Stay three nights minimum to justify the journey and properly use the wider Nayara estate.
