Character and identity
Occupying floors 22 to 26 of a 54-storey tower above the L.A. Live entertainment campus, this 123-room property has a boutique feel within the Ritz-Carlton portfolio, accessed by its own discreet entrance separate from the JW Marriott it shares the building with. Rooms are bright and airy in white, neutral and pastel tones, all with city views, plush sofas and bathrooms featuring soaking tubs and mirror TVs. The 8,000-square-foot spa is downtown's only full-service operation, the 26th-floor rooftop pool runs cabana-flanked and heated, and Wolfgang Puck's WP24 anchors the dining on the 24th floor with modern Chinese cooking. Service runs in the polished, high-touch Ritz-Carlton register.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples after a downtown staycation, international luxury travellers who want a familiar brand, and sports-industry visitors in town for events at the neighbouring arena. Also strong for corporate groups, given nearly 100,000 square feet of meeting space and a quiet 3,400-square-foot Club Lounge with skyline views. Spa devotees should make a point of the CBD treatments.
Should look elsewhere:
Design-led travellers seeking a standalone, characterful property will find the shared-tower setup a compromise. The immediate L.A. Live surroundings skew touristy and event-driven, so anyone prioritising serious dining, nightlife or neighbourhood texture is better placed in the Arts District or further west.
Bottom line
The defining tension here is a genuinely polished hotel sitting inside a tower it shares with a JW Marriott, in a neighbourhood that's more arena-and-arcade than cultural quarter. Book it for the spa, the rooftop and the WP24 view, particularly if you're in town for an event at Staples. A Club Lounge room is the upgrade that matters, and Bonvoy points stretch unusually well here.
