Character and identity
Rising 92 storeys of glass and concrete above the Chicago River, this 176-room tower trades on its waterfront perch and floor-to-ceiling skyline views. Interiors lean clubby and contemporary: slate-grey palettes, custom furnishings, rich woods, and rooms built around fully equipped kitchens and bathroom mirrors with embedded TVs. The wellness floor on level 14 anchors the experience, a 75-foot indoor pool, 12 treatment rooms, expansive locker areas, and a window-wrapped fitness centre with 40-plus classes. Dining runs from neo-Japanese plates at Rebar to modern American cooking at Terrace 16, whose riverside terrace looks straight at the Michigan Avenue Bridge.
Who's it for
Best for:
Couples and design-minded travellers who want a high-floor view, a serious spa and pool, and the convenience of an in-suite kitchen for longer stays. Families are genuinely catered to through the Trump Kids programme (in-room glamping tents, kid menus, mocktails), and dog owners get a thoughtful pet package.
Should look elsewhere:
Travellers seeking destination-level dining will note that the two-Michelin-starred Sixteen is gone, replaced in 2018 by something more casual. Anyone uncomfortable with the branding (those 20-foot letters on the facade are unavoidable) should book elsewhere. Not the pick for boutique intimacy.
Bottom line
The defining draw here is the combination of river-and-skyline geography with one of the strongest hotel wellness floors in the city. Book a high-floor suite on the river side to get the full value of the windows and kitchen, and lean into the spa, pool and Terrace 16 sunsets. Branding aside, the hardware genuinely delivers.
