Character and identity
Set on 800 landscaped acres eight miles from Miami International and about 20 minutes from downtown and the beach, this is a self-contained golf resort rather than a city hotel: a long, fountain-anchored drive, four championship courses, and more than 600 rooms and suites arranged across a suburban campus. Gil Hanse has reworked all 72 holes, including the toughened Blue Monster. Dining runs from BLT Prime's dry-aged steaks to Champion's Bar and Grill and the Palm Grill, with The Living Room lounge for champagne and live music. The 48-suite Trump Spa and the Royal Palm Pool, complete with 18 cabanas and a 125-foot slide, round out the day.
Who's it for
Best for:
Golfers above all, particularly mixed groups who want serious courses (Blue Monster, Red Tiger, Silver Fox, Golden Palm), a proper academy, club fitting, and a floodlit range. It also suits convention and incentive travellers, tennis players, and families happy with a big resort pool, cabanas, and a slide.
Should look elsewhere:
Anyone wanting the beach, walkable Miami nightlife, or South Beach design energy. The city of Doral is suburban and corporate, so couples after intimacy, boutique scale, or an art-and-architecture weekend will find this too large and too golf-driven.
Bottom line
What you're paying for here is the golf infrastructure, four Hanse-redesigned courses, an academy, and a 7,000-square-foot pro shop, more than the location or the romance. Book it if a tee sheet matters more than ocean views; a Jr. Suite near the Royal Palm Pool works well for non-golfing partners, and shoulder-season rates around the championship calendar are the smart window.
