Character and identity
Gravity Haus Vail occupies the former Vail Mountain Lodge in the heart of Vail Village, steps from the Golden Peak base. With just 27 rooms, it operates more like a members' clubhouse than a traditional hotel, anchored by an 18,000 square foot gym (turf field, Pelotons, hyperbaric chamber), a recovery-focused spa with outdoor hot tubs and solarium, and Unravel Coffee, the in-house roaster. Slope Room, the bar-restaurant, leans Versailles-meets-cabin: rococo chandeliers and a Louis XV mantel set against wood and a David Yarrow photograph. Rooms feel boutique-mountain rather than alpine-kitsch, with leather headboards, basil walls, and Parachute linens.
Who's it for
Best for:
Active travellers and design-aware skiers who want ski-in proximity without the corporate ski-resort feel. Ideal for couples and friend groups in their late 20s to early 50s, remote workers (zoom rooms, co-working), gear obsessives drawn to the Haus Quiver demo programme, and anyone who treats recovery, gym time and sustainability as part of the holiday.
Should look elsewhere:
Travellers wanting a full-service grand resort with multiple restaurants, kids' clubs and concierge polish should book elsewhere. The membership-club energy and busy village location mean it is social and pet-friendly rather than secluded, and the single dining room limits variety on longer stays.
Bottom line
The defining feature here is the wellness and recovery infrastructure, a serious gym, altitude-recovery treatments and Unravel coffee, paired with a genuinely walkable Golden Peak location. Spend the money if you ski hard and care about training between runs. Book the Switchback if you are travelling as a family or foursome, and consider buying into the membership if room rates, gear discounts and locker access stack up over your trip.
