Paws Up Montana
Review
Character and identity
Paws Up sprawls across 37,000 acres of the Blackfoot River Valley, a working cattle and bison ranch thirty-five minutes from Missoula that pioneered American luxury glamping when it opened in 2005. The property splits between 28 timber-and-stone luxury homes, 36 safari-style tents with king feather beds and heated slate bathroom floors, and the adults-only Green O with its 12 design-forward hauses (the Tree Haus perches 23 feet up in the pines). Dining runs from casual Trough breakfasts to seven-course tasting menus at Social Haus, while Spa Town occupies a meadow of treatment tents. Service is all-inclusive and quietly anticipatory.
Who's it for
Best for:
Active families and multi-generational groups who want their kids off screens and onto horses, zip-lines, and rope swings, with the Kids Corps of Discovery splitting programmes by age. Equally suited to couples chasing unplugged wilderness with refined cooking and a spa, particularly at the adults-only Green O.
Should look elsewhere:
City-break travellers, design minimalists who find Western lodge decor heavy, and anyone needing fully ADA-compliant accommodation (only select homes carry partial features). The glamping tents are seasonal (mid-May to mid-October), so winter guests are limited to the homes and Green O.
Bottom line
What sets this property apart is the sheer scale of programming layered over genuinely wild country: 100 miles of trails, ten miles of river frontage, and an activity menu deep enough to warrant a pre-arrival concierge call. Book a Wilderness Estate for larger groups, a Meadow Home for couples or small families, and the Green O if you want adults-only quiet. Plan around the May-to-October window for the full glamping and river-float experience.
